Ainda quero mergulhar na distância

07.11.2026 – 09.01.2027
Almeida & Dale, Rua Fradique Coutinho 1430, São Paulo, Brazil

Rebeca Carapiá’s first exhibition at Almeida & Dale, with a critical essay by curator Cindy Sissokho: a new body of sculptures ranging from proportions similar to trees or the human body down to scales close to the size of hands.

The works stem from the artist’s investigations into materials, particularly iron and copper, and the elements that allow her to twist, bend and join these metals: air and fire, as well as those associated with Cidade Baixa in Salvador. The landscape serves as a common thread connecting territories and experiences, including her recent residency at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris and her life in São Paulo.

The exhibition presents developments of the series Como criar raízes aéreas, shown at the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, which in turn grew out of Apenas depois da chuva at Inhotim, when the artist began investigating the paxiúba, the walking palm.

Apenas depois da chuva

Commissioned installation
Instituto Inhotim, Brumadinho, Brazil, 2024

Commissioned by Inhotim, Only after the Rain (2024) is a sculptural installation of 20 pieces, each about five metres long, shown on the lake near Galeria Mata and Tunga’s Galeria True Rouge.

The work comes from the artist’s immersion in the Serra da Capivara, in Piauí. It reflects on the relationship between water and territory, investigating the writing found in the site’s drawings and carvings. During the research trip, Carapiá made the drawings that make up Only after the Rain.

For the first time in Carapiá’s practice, the pieces were made in collaboration with metalworker Gabriel Silva Santiago and the institution’s metalworking team; the new, more monumental scale was also made possible by the Studio and Production teams. Curated by Beatriz Lemos and Deri Andrade.
